A win for Chloe as temporary 'in charge'

SDA member Chloe works for a large supermarket chain. Chloe was appointed by her employer to take on extra responsibility at work as temporarily ‘in charge’ for 3 weeks.

When Chloe asked about compensation for the role, she was advised by her manager that company policy dictated that to be compensated for additional duties, one must have undertaken the duties for a longer period.

Unhappy with the answer she was given, Chloe spoke with her Union Delegate and Organiser.

Armed with information from the Enterprise Agreement, pay slips and with the full support of her Union, Chloe and her store Delegate met with her manager again. Upon receiving the correct information, Chloe’s manager apologised and Chloe was compensated over $1000. It was great to hold a constructive meeting with Chloe’s employer and amicably resolve the situation.

If you have been appointed as ‘in charge’, please check your payslips to ensure you are being compensated correctly.
